1.  Financial Institutions: Beware of Scams Designed to Steal FATCA-Related Account Data

The Internal Revenue Service issued a fraud alert for international financial institutions complying with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Scam artists posing as the IRS have fraudulently solicited financial institutions seeking account holder identity and financial account information.


2.  IRS Issuing EITC Due Diligence Letters

Beginning in October the Internal Revenue Service will send due diligence warning letters to tax preparers who appear not to be complying with EITC due diligence requirements. Assistance understanding these requirements is available on the EITC Tax Professional’s page.


3.  Notice 2014-52, Rules Regarding Inversions and Related Transactions

Notice 2014-52 describes regulations that the IRS and Treasury Department intend to issue with respect to inversion transactions.


4.  Extended Maintenance Window this Sunday for Modernized e-File (MeF)

The Modernized e-File (MeF) maintenance build window is being extended this Sunday, Sept. 28. The system will be unavailable from 1:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time. The build will deploy critical system updates.

This extended window impacts the MeF Production and Assurance Testing System (ATS) Environments.
