1. Online Seminars from the 2014 IRS Nationwide Tax Forums are Now Available

2. IRS Seeks Applications for Advisory Committee for the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division
The Internal Revenue Service is seeking applications for vacancies on the Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (ACT). The committee provides a venue for public input on relevant areas of tax administration.
3. IRS Improves e-Services Registration Process
The IRS recently updated the e-Services Registration process with challenge questions for use in unlocking one’s account and certain other changes to the registration screen. More details are available on the e-Services information page on irs.gov.
4. EITC Due Diligence Warning Letters
The IRS is issuing EITC Due Diligence letters to tax preparers who may be noncompliant in meeting their EITC due diligence requirements. Information and resources on due diligence requirements is available on the EITC Tax Professional’s page.
5. Drought-Stricken Farmers and Ranchers Have More Time to Replace Livestock
Farmers and ranchers who previously were forced to sell livestock due to drought, like the drought currently affecting much of the nation, have an extended period of time in which to replace the livestock and defer tax on any gains from the forced sales.
6. YouTube: October 15 Tax Deadline
If your client asked for an extension to file their tax return, this YouTube video is a reminder that the deadline is Oct.15.

7. Modernized e-File (MEF) Production Power Outage for Columbus Day
IRS will conduct its annual Columbus Day Power Outage beginning Saturday, Oct. 11 at 3:00 p.m. and ending on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 5:00 a.m. The MeF Systems will not be available during this time.
Important Note: States that schedule retrieval of their state submissions may have to change their schedule in order to retrieve submissions in time to validate returns and submit acknowledgements by 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 11. Anything not retrieved through MeF by 3:00 p.m. cannot be accessed again until MeF re-opens for Production on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
