#1 Take Advantage of your Digital Tools

#2 Get and Stay Organized

When you have a stack of tax returns to get through, hundreds of emails to respond to, and a dozen calls to return, it can be difficult to prioritize organization. On top of utilizing digital tools to improve the overall efficiency of your tax office you can also use them to improve the organization of the office. Getting organized not only reduces stress but it can also save you and your tax business money by reducing the time it takes to find certain documents and file a return. You can read about tips for cleaning and organizing your workspace here.

#3 Set Reasonable Expectations for Yourself and your Teammates

Just because you are trying to end the tax season strong doesn’t mean you have to pile on the workload. Setting reasonable goals and expectations for you, your team, and your clients not only reduces the strain on each individual in the tax office but it also promotes transparency and a sense of professionalism with your taxpayers. Making sure the expectations stay in a reasonable range will also show those under you that you care and are aware of the struggles they have been facing this tax season.

#4 Be Patient

Rome wasn’t built in a day. While there is a time limit to filing tax returns that doesn’t mean you should start rushing through them. Errors can cost you and your clients so prepare returns consistently and carefully

#5 Take the Time to Take Care of Yourself

You are not a tax machine, you are a human being. If you have been pulling late nights and stressing yourself out during the day trying to get ahold of clients or find that one form you need to finish a return then pay close attention to this part. Stop, take a breath, and relax. Prioritize your mental and physical health along with serving your clients. Take an hour to go outside, absorb some sunlight, maybe even a quick jog around the block. Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep as well. While you might not need a full 8 hours like some, making sure you get the sleep you need will mean a greater mental focus during the day and less mistakes when filling out somebody’s return.

The tax season is coming to a close but there is still work to do. Make sure that you and your team finish strong this year and are prepared for the next tax season. Thank you for reading this brief blog and good luck tax pros!
